November 5, 2012 – weekly update

Hello troop 26! This is the first of many weekly posts that I will do during my time as webmaster! To begin, during meetings, we must work on these two things according to today’s performance:

  • Outdoor code (all of the flag presentation in general)
  • Being quiet and respectful to the speaker
  • Cutting down on the horseplay and throwing of objects
  • And to reiterate my second point… Stop Talking!!! haha:)

Our annual Christmas party is coming up on December 17th. This is a fun time for the scout’s whole family to enjoy an amazing meal and a night of great fun and also to celebrate the past year of scouting. There will be the gift exchange that we have every year –> bring an individually wrapped gift that you will exchange at random with another scout. You are only included in this if you bring one! (usually a 10$ gift is good but there’s no limit!) Mainly this party is centered around the gift auction. This is where Mr. Lukas has bought placed wrapped and unwrapped gifts on a table and your PARENTS get to bid on them. They bid with the points (converted/totaled from the point system taken before every meeting) that you have acquired over the last year. As a troop 26 tradition, there is a potluck dinner before and during the auction. (what to bring will be announced at a later date) Typical items that are auctioned off are: Hatchets, Sleeping Bags, Flashlights, Tents, Knives and Blankets along with random little and big (you don’t want to miss out on the big stuff) items thrown in there. The dinner will begin at 6:30 P.M. that evening with the auction starting at (roughly) 7:00 P.M. Be looking out for Mrs. Lukas’s famous Ham during this fun celebration of Christmas and Scouting!

Next week (Nov. 12) bring gloves and a bladed tool – pocket knife or hatchet; for we will be stripping the bark off the poles for our cooking tent. (DON’T BRING A KNIFE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR TOTIN CHIP!) Remember to dress for the weather being that we do indeed live in Montana.

In about a month is the yearly Christmas Stroll downtown. On December 7, we will be selling Tacos in a Bag and Hot Chocolate to help raise money to assist our scouts in paying for campouts and yearly dues. If you are attending make sure the SPL knows and be at the front of Kauffman’s at 4:00 P.M. Be in your full uniform and dress for the weather. A HELPFUL HINT WOULD BE WOOL SOCKS! (Tacos in a bag = 3.50$, Hot Chocolate = 1.00$, and Hot Chocolate w/ Candy Cane = 1.50$) You won’t want to miss this for it is a great opportunity to fill your scout accounts with money for Melita Island this summer!

Lastly, we have our popcorn pickup/delivery. This year we exceeded our goal by selling an amazing $13,855!!! This THURSDAY at 3:00 P.M. is the troop pickup at Big R. Following that at 5:00 P.M., there is pickup at the Weissman’s house (315 4th Ave. North) until 6:00 P.M. You don’t want to be late for the wrath of Mr. Weissman will be unleashed upon you!!

Have a great week scouts and parents and don’t forget to LIVE LIKE A SCOUT! Look for more updates this week.
