Troop Committee Update

Greetings all,
I hope you all are doing well.  I am going to combine info from the Agenda for the Committee Meeting, some Minutes from that meeting as well as info from the District Committee Meeting, which was held last night.
Our meeting was held in the café at Hastings.  Was this a good place to have our meeting?  Do you know of a location?
We welcome Jeremy Adams to our Troop as a Committee Member.  Jeremy is an Eagle Scout and will add much experience to help us.  His application has been submitted to Council.
Wood Badge 2013  May 16-18 & June 6-8  Steve will attend for us, his application and funds have been submitted
National Youth Leadership Training, June 23 – 29 2013 at K-M.  Tyler will attend for us and his application and funds have been.
We will work with Tim this year on getting someone in place to assist him with and eventually take on advancement.
The Scout Trailer is in need of some repairs before use.  Tim has noted that the axles need inspected and may be need of repair.  He observed that the tires are leaning. Tim had a photo which didn’t look good.  We will get the Klondike equipmenton Tuesday 15th.  I will get up there and look at it better to give us a better idea.
We discussed the Troop Handbook.  Many ideas were presented but we will need to plan a separate meeting where we can go through and as a group, make the changes right there and then make up a final working book.
We will order a second troop flag to keep in the trailer.  Aaron will get us more on the cost.  I will pick up an American flag to have as well.  We are on a roll ! ! !
Our Troop was first chartered 56 years ago.  It was brought up to order either the bars separately or have them embroidered with the troop number as one patch.  With this we will have to order them as 1026 as this is our full troop number.  I suggest just ordering the bars – as I saw Papa Paul had one last night and it looked good with just the bar added above his troop number.  We are eligible for the 55 year patch (56 years charted) this year.  This would be for every boy and leader with a uniform in our troop. And of course will go to 60 in 4 years. . . . !
We will have thank you cards for the boys to sign and send out for the support to our troop this past few months.  Wendy’s, Basics, Wayne Thares/Taco John’s, and Kauffman’s.
We will look at and plan more fundraisers for the Troop.  One good idea is bagging groceries for IGA.  More planning to come.  Some boys have a negative account balance and we need ways to help them.
We earned a Gold for the 2012 Journey to Excellence with 1650 points.  We will work and watch closer to keep this achievement going strong in 2013.  Each boy and leader will receive a shoulder patch for this.
Karla & Wendy will work to get an audit of each boy’s scouting account by the end of the month.
Merit badge Pow Wow is this weekend and again in two weeks. (1/12 & 1/26)  The boys that are attending are signed up for their merit badge classes.  Location: LDS Church, 1401 9th Street NW, Great Falls, MT (Church near Valley View Garden Mini-Golf)   Schedule:
0730 Flags (Units are encouraged to bring their Troop Flag and Stand)
0800 – 0855 Session 1
0900 – 0955 Session 2
1000 – 1055 Session 3
1100 – 1155 Session 4
This is a Field Uniform (Class A) event.
All registered Scouts were afforded their first choice of merit badge classes. Alternates were not used. A finalized schedule will be forwarded to Units shortly and will also be available at the Pow-Wow.
Scouts are required to read the specific Merit Badge Books for each class taken.
Scouts are required to bring copies of the specific Merit Badge Worksheets for each class taken. Worksheets can be printed at –
A signed Merit Badge Application (Blue Card) from your Scoutmaster is required for each class taken.
Some Merit Badges have requirements that cannot be completed in class. The instructor will include all he or she can at the Pow Wow; however, it is the Scout’s responsibility to complete all remaining requirements not passed off at the Pow Wow and to make arrangements with either their instructor or another Merit Badge Counselor to complete the Merit Badge requirements.
Klondike is January 18-19-20.  The boys have been working hard at getting the Yettis, snowshoes and other equipment ready.  There will be warm restrooms (!!!) and running water available there.  They will have a good time.  All camp fires will need to be above ground.
The District is coordinating the start of a Venturing Group. More details will be coming out.
February 3rdis Scout Sunday where the boys are encouraged to wear their uniforms to their church service.  February 9 is the Scout Shabbat.  Please encourage your boys to attend and participate.
February 18this the trip to Helena to observe Legislature.
March 2ndis set for the District Pinewood Derby races. Help will be need for this all day event.  Good Service Project Help ! ! !   Location is still being sought.
March 18th will be the next Court of Honor.  We need some Merit Badges earned and Rank Advancements. . . .
We will also have a Friends Of Scouting Presentation.
March 16th  is the bag drop off for Scouting for Food, and March 23rd will be the pick-up day.  We will need to plan to work with this.
April 12th  – 14th is Trail to First Class along with Order of the Arrow Tap Out.
