March 4, 2013 – Weekly Update

Hey friends! Great job on slicing and dicing last night! I think as a troop, we learned a lot and will use these skills in our everyday life! Let’s keep up the good work. Special thanks to the parents and boys that brought in: Knives, Cutting Boards, and Vegetables. We donated pounds of vegetables and they are very appreciative for it!

This Saturday, March 9th, Troop 26 is having our “annual” ski trip up to Showdown. Rides can be arranged, but if wanted/needed the Showdown Bus is always an option. For 10 dollars you receive a round trip pass on a heated bus that takes you there and back home! (If doing this, meet at the McLaughlin center parking lot at 7:00 A.M. with all that you will need for the day!) The reason why we are going this Saturday in particular, is to participate in/watch the Throw down @ Showdown Big Air competition. Our very own Max Weissman is a strong competitor in this and it would be sweet for the troop to cheer him on! (DON’T PARTICIPATE UNLESS YOU CAN DO THE JUMP) We need at least 15 people (adults and kids) to go for us to get a discounted rate. If we have 15 people going, the prices will be as follows (look for an explanation below):

  • Adult full-area lift ticket –> $32
  • Beginner area lift ticket –> $18
  • Ski Rental –> $18
  • Snowboard Rental –> $30
  • Ski or Snowboard lesson –> $10
  • Never-ever package for skiers –> $25
  • Never-ever package for boarders –> $35

If you are a novice skier/boarder, or you would like to take a lesson while renting gear, the “never-ever” package is specially made for you! This includes a beginner area lift ticket ($18), a lesson ($10), and rental of equipment ($18/$30). This is great deal being that you could save about 15 dollars!

If we do not get 15 people to go, the prices can be raised up to 6 dollars. Meaning that we should try to get 15 people to go! Encourage our fellow scouters still deciding to go because it will be a blast! Let’s go and cheer Max on!

Have an excellent week scouts and parents! Don’t forget to LIVE LIKE A SCOUT! Look for more updates this week.

  1. Jordan: GREAT post. Very well done, as always. In addition, I would also like to thank everyone in the troop for your enthusiasm and attention to detail last night. Thanks in particular to everyone who brought supplies, and to the parents, leaders and older Scouts who taught and coached these skills: Mr. Adams, Mr. Helgeson, Mr. Tanner, Mark Helgeson and Kyle Gilles. Knife skills in the kitchen are a life-long skill that everyone should try to hone.

A few more details regarding our skiing trip planned this Saturday: 1) The troop will help subsidize attendees at this event. I will let all participants know the total cost after I receive RSVPs from attendees. 2) If you plan on participating in the “Big Air” competition, your parent or guardian MUST be present. Please be aware that “Big Air” participants will be expected to be expert skiers or snowboarders.

If you are renting equipment at the ski hill, please try to be at Showdown by 8:30 a.m. Everyone else, please meet me inside the lodge by 9 a.m., downstairs by locker #91. Please pack a sack lunch or bring approximately $10 for the grill line.

I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning!
