Popcorn, Campouts and Rope, oh my!

Troop 26;

Thank you all very much for your attention and help at our calendar conference last night! I think that we were able to schedule a fun and active group of activities for the coming year.

Our Troop calendar is available for you to view at our website, troop26greatfalls.com. In addition, with many thanks to Mrs. Larios, all of the events on that Troop calendar will also be posted as events on our Troop Facebook page. If anyone wants a printed copy of the calendar, please let me know and I will try to make that happen.

Popcorn pickup is this coming Thursday evening. For those of you helping to pick our order from the District, please be at the North 40 Outfitter warehouse on North Star Boulevard at 5:30pm on Thursday. From there, we will travel to our Troop distribution site, which will (hopefully) be the Cascade County Aging Services warehouse. I will be sending another note later this week with the time and exact location where you can pick up your popcorn. We need everyone who sold popcorn to pick up their order on Thursday evening.

We have a fun campout at Many Pines Campground near Neihart scheduled for this weekend! We will be leaving on Friday evening at 5pm from the Washington Building parking lot (1015 1st Ave N). If there is snow this weekend, we will be sledding and snowshoeing. If not, plan for some hikes at Memorial Falls and near Showdown ski area. BE PREPARED FOR ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS INCLUDING SNOW AND RAIN.

One of the things we will be doing this weekend will be learning to prepare food over an open fire; we are not planning on setting up the cook stoves. Our menu includes breakfast burritos, a lunch of grilled cheese sandwiches / tomato soup and a steak dinner.

If you are not yet signed up for the campout this weekend and you would like to attend, please get in touch with me as soon as possible. All participants need to return a permission slip. If you have not filled out a med form this year, I will need you to complete one of these as well (A and B only). I have attached a blank permission slip and med form to this email. We should return by Sunday morning.

For the remainder of the calendar year, the PLC has decided to work on ropes, knots and pioneering! We will be making rope at our meeting on November 17, working on knots at our meeting on November 24 and learning lashing and pioneering on December 1 and December 8. Our Troop Christmas Party will be December 15.

Have a great week, and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening to pick up popcorn and camping with you this weekend.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Weissman
