Helping Those in Need and Paying for the Popcorn
Thank you to those that came to our Scout meeting last night, and congratulations to Zaiden Lawrence for being awarded Best Camper for our campout this past weekend!
I still need 2-3 Scouts to volunteer to help deliver leftover Halloween candy to the Rescue Mission tonight or tomorrow. If I can’t get a few Scouts to volunteer, I will have to let the organizers know ASAP. If you can give up about 15 minutes of your time this afternoon/evening or tomorrow, please get back to me as soon as possible.
On Friday evening from 5-8pm, there will be a dinner fundraiser for a 33 year old mother with terminal breast cancer at the Black Eagle Community Center, and our troop has been asked to help bus tables and serve the meal. Opportunities like this are a good part of the reason that we have the Boy Scouts of America, and I expect every Scout in our Troop to help out. Of course, this will count toward your service hours for your next rank, and this event does qualify you for a Messengers of Peace ring around your Scouting World Crest. If you can be there by 4:30pm, you will be served dinner. Please get back to me with your confirmation that you can help out and the times you will be available. Class A uniforms, please!
We will be beginning work on ropes, knots and lashings at our meeting this coming Monday, November 17, 7pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. On Monday, we will be learning how to make rope! For the older Scouts who have done this before, please make a point to attend to help teach the younger Scouts. At this meeting, you are also responsible to turn in the remainder of the funds you owe for the popcorn you sold.
Our Troop has to write a very big check very soon for that popcorn. We need you to turn in the remainder of those funds by Monday. I would like to express a very large thank you to Tonya Frost, who served as our Popcorn chair during our sale. Thank you also to Laura Detrick, who has taken over for her to finalize the accounting for our popcorn sale. Laura has prepared some audited popcorn invoices/reports for every boy that sold that show the amount you still owe. I will be sending those to you individually today. Remember, deliver your corn and turn in the rest of your popcorn money by Monday, November 17!
Finally, today is Veteran’s Day and it is worth pausing to reflect on those that have spent time in uniform serving our country. Many gave their life and health so that we could enjoy the freedom we hold so dear. Take some time today and thank a vet for their service! Many of your adult leaders are active duty servicemen or veterans, including Mike Lukas, John Dresel, Steve Boyd, Laura Detrick, Richard Elkins and Jeremy Adams (I apologize if I missed your name on this list). Please take some time today to thank those that have given years of their life to keep us free.
Yours in Scouting,
