Be Prepared for a Great Time at the Zombie Apocalypse Klondike Derby!

Troop 26;

Great job yesterday evening! With all the snow that we received and our light attendance, it was wonderful that we were able to get the church entrance shoveled. A Good Turn Daily is important, and you all did great. Again, please make a point to take a snow shovel with you for the rest of the our meetings this Winter.

At the meeting, we put together our plans and menu for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse Klondike Derby on January 16-18. We will complete those plans and have a pack-check at our meeting next Monday, January 12 at 7pm. Our menu will be omelettes on Saturday morning, grilled cheese sandwiches and soup for lunch and a dutch oven stew for dinner. Many thanks to Michael Frost for serving as our grubmaster for this campout!

All Scouts attending should bring their pack with the gear that they intend to take to Klondike to our meeting this coming Monday. We will be using troop tents for this campout. Due to the expected weather, all Scouts will be assigned at least one buddy with which to share a tent. If you did not make the meeting last night, please do some research on appropriate clothing and gear for cold weather camping at sites like this:

The Klondike will be a lot of fun, but you need to be prepared for this adventure. If you are not prepared for cold weather camping, you will be sent home. All participants need to ensure that they have completed a med form in the last year and complete a permission slip for this event. You will be receiving a blank permission slip via Scoutbook to sign.

Looking forward with our schedule, we will have a short meeting on January 19 at Trinity Lutheran at 7pm in order to award best camper from the Klondike. Finally in January, we will begin some training on leadership skills at our meeting on January 26.

There are a few events also scheduled for February! Our Troop ski day at Showdown will be Saturday, February 7. We will attempt to procure group-rates at Showdown for this event, which can be deducted from your Scout account with the Troop. Please let me know if you intend on participating!

Please remember that Scout Sunday is February 8 and Scout Shabbat is February 14! If you wear your uniform to church or synagogue on these days, you will qualify for a special patch. This is on-your-honor, please let me know if you qualify.

Our District has arranged a visit with the Montana Legislature on February 16 in Helena. The governor has agreed to meet with the boys of our District. In addition to learning more about how our democracy works, this is a great opportunity to complete requirements for First Class rank and the three citizenship merit badges. Please let me know if you intend on participating in this event, also.

Finally, our Troop lock-in has been tentatively moved to the evening of Friday, February 27. We are attempting to arrange swimming at the Natatorium for that evening. More information about this fun evening and a confirmation of the date will be coming soon.

Remember to bring your pack with you to our meeting this coming Monday!

Have a great Scouting week.
