Congratulations to Troop 26!
What a great Court of Honor and Committee Meeting last night! Congratulations to everyone on their achievements. I am also very pleased to announce that it looks like we achieved Gold status in the Investment in Character and Leadership campaign. As such, everyone in the Troop gets the following benefits:
- $15 discount per youth to K-M Summer Camp AND NYLT training,
- Free Rank Advancement patches through April, 2016, AND
- 5% Discount for all purchases for the Troop and any Troop member at the Scout office
Thank you very much for your support of Scouting in our community!
For our upcoming schedule, we will have a Patrol Leader’s Council meeting this coming Monday, May 4 at 6pm at Trinity Lutheran Church (1226 1st Ave N) followed by a Troop meeting at 7pm. We need all youth troop leaders (SPL, ASPL, PLs, APLs, Scribe, Quartermaster, etc.) at our PLC meeting. We will planning for the Spring Camporee and will begin working on the NOVA Shoot! award at the Troop meeting. We have some very fun activities planned for this award; come to the meeting to learn more.
We will be attending the Lewis and Clark District Spring Camporee on the weekend of May 15. Please confirm your intent to attend on scoutbook.com. You can also print out your pre-filled permission slip for the event there. Please turn in that permission slip at our next meeting.
We will be joining Pack 26 for a campout at Medicine River Scout Center on the weekend of May 29-31. Please let me know if you will be attending. The boys from our Troop will be helping to organize the program for the boys of the Pack. Scouting is more fun if we continue to recruit new Scouts, and joining the Pack on activities like this is the best way for those boys to get excited to join our Troop. Please clear your calendar to attend, at least for the day of May 30.
We will be hiking to the top of Showdown ski area for a campout and woods service project on the weekend of June 19. This will be a different sort of campout for us, as we will be hiking with all of our gear and food. We will be spending the day on Saturday to clear hazard saplings, brush and trees on a few ski runs. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to earn their Paul Bunyan Woodsman award. Please clear your calendar to attend.
The Troop will be attending K-M Summer Camp July 19-25. I have attached a copy of the available merit badge classes to this note. I need your attendance commitments and merit badge preferences as soon as possible. Many of the popular classes fill up quickly; I will sign you up for those classes as soon as you get me your choices.
Did you have a great time at our Lake Alva canoeing campout last year? We currently plan to hold that event again over the July 31-August 2 weekend. Mark your calendars!
Please also plan to spend the morning of Saturday, August 8 at the Scout office for our annual calendar conference. At that conference we will be making all of our calendar plans for our 2015-2016 program year.
Many Scouts in our unit need to raise significant funds to be able to pay their own way in Scouting. A Scout is Thrifty, and participating in fundraisers is the best way to allow you to be an active Scout. We have the following fundraisers planned, with more to come:
Boys in our unit have the opportunity to earn some funds for their Scout account on the weekend of May 8 by doing some yardwork for an elderly lady in our community that has requested some assistance. Please confirm to me your intent to help and I will get you specific details.
Many thanks to Mrs. Rapkoch for organizing a Grocery Bagging fundraiser (organized by the parents of Troop 26) for sometime during the weekend of May 22. More details about this will be forthcoming.
We will also be holding a fundraising Pancake Breakfast (organized by Ms. Larios) this Spring. More details about this will also be forthcoming soon.
In the same note, many thanks to Mr. Adams for agreeing to serve as our unit Popcorn Kernel for the 2015 sale.
I think that is enough for one day. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday, May 4 for our PLC and Troop meeting.
Yours in Scouting,
