PLC on Monday, October 5 at 6pm
Happy October! There is a crispness to the air and the colors of the leaves are just gorgeous. Enjoy the Fall!
We will hold our October Patrol Leader’s Conference (PLC) this coming Monday, October 5 at 6pm at Trinity Lutheran Church (1226 1st Avenue North) before our regular Troop meeting. If you hold a leadership position (SPL, ASPL, PL, APL, QM, Scribe, etc.), please make a point to attend our PLC! Agenda items include our October and November themes, meeting agendas and plans for Fall outings including JOTA, bowling and a trip to Lick Creek Cave. Please lend your leadership to this meeting.
Our first Troop meeting in October will begin at 7pm on October 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Our program for that meeting includes completing the service project for Trinity Lutheran and determining position requirements for Troop leadership roles in 2016. Please again bring shovels and rakes, and you may also wear your Class B activity uniform for this meeting. Remember to bring your popcorn forms and any funds you have collected to turn in as well.
Max Weissman will be finalizing his Eagle Project over the October 10-11 weekend at the old Jewish cemetery just South of Great Falls. Volunteers are needed to spread, level and compact gravel for the entrance road he is constructing to the cemetery. Please bring work gloves, garden rakes and shovels. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The nearest address to the cemetery is 81 Highland Road in Great Falls. GPS coordinates are 47° 27′ 54” N; 111° 15′ 3.6” W. To get to the cemetery, head South on 26th Street. Continue past Mt. Olivet Cemtery. Continue heading South past Gibson Flats Road. The road will turn to the East. Follow the road to the East without turning until you come to a prairie cemetery marked by an old wrought iron archway. We will have some signs up to help show the way.
Your time volunteering on Eagle projects also counts for your rank advancement. Remember, you will be asking for help with YOUR Eagle project soon; please make a point to attend when you are asked. Please watch your email and text messages for specific times that volunteers are needed.
We will begin working on First Aid skills, beginning in mid-October. It is very important to keep your first aid skills sharp. Your training and action could be the difference in someone’s life. Please watch your email regarding information on our meetings where we will be covering this theme.
Remember to continue selling popcorn until the sale is over on October 18. Your popcorn sales can fund your Scouting adventures! We have a busy and fun program this year, and your work selling popcorn can help make it possible for you to enjoy every bit of that adventure, including our week at Melita Island this coming Summer! We will have fun prizes for top sellers in the Troop at each Scout meeting between now and the end of the Sale.
Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) will be held behind the Scout office (817 17th Avenue South) over the October 16-18 weekend. I have heard rumors that one of the astronauts on the space station will be making himself available for radio communication over the weekend! You will have the opportunity to work on Radio and Electronics merit badges over the weekend, as well. Please watch your email for more information on this event.
Parents and leaders, please mark your calendars for Introduction to Outdoor Leader Training on the October 24 weekend. This is a required training for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. If you have not already taken the class, please call the Scout office (761-6000) to register today.
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Good luck on your popcorn sales this weekend.
Yours in Scouting,
